For centuries, the Silk Road carried ideas through the cities of Uzbekistan. I grew up in one of them — Kitob, a small town in Kashkadarya. In 2021 I packed one bag and left for a boarding school in Karshi. Since then the road has taken me to olympiad stages, a TEDx microphone, a classroom in China and the Central Bank. This is that road.

The Arrival

Students holding bronze medals after the Zakovat quiz competition

New city. New school. First medal.

In my first year after transferring to the Presidential School in Karshi, our team took third place in Zakovat — Uzbekistan's “What? Where? When?” team quiz game.

It was the moment I understood that the boy from Kitob could compete with anyone — as long as he kept asking questions.

Chapter two · Finding a voice

The Voice

I was not born confident on stage. I built it — one notiqlik class, one TEDx talk, one amphitheater speech at a time.

“How social media shapes how we see ourselves” — my talk under the theme Ideas Empowered.

“A good speech isn't about sounding clever. It's about making one person in the room learn something.” — What the stage taught me

Playing Babur

On the school stage I played Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur — the poet-king who left the Fergana Valley and founded an empire. Another boy from Uzbekistan who went far.

The Economist

Economics is how I make sense of the world — why some towns grow and others wait. Out of thousands of students, five are chosen to represent Uzbekistan at the International Economics Olympiad. I was chosen twice.

Chapter four · Yinghua Academy, Tianjin

Along the East

In grade 11 ten students from Uzbekistan went to the Yinghua Academic Camp in Tianjin, China on scholarship — four through olympiad wins, six selected by the Ministry. I was one of those six. I led a multinational team in business simulations, studied Chinese language and heritage — and walked the other end of the Silk Road.
